{"identifier":"CVE-2026-41570","cve":{"id":"CVE-2026-41570","description":"PHPUnit is a testing framework for PHP. In versions 12.5.21 and 13.1.5, PHPUnit forwards PHP INI settings to child processes (used for isolated/PHPT test execution) as -d name=value command-line arguments without neutralizing INI metacharacters. Because PHP's INI parser interprets \" as a string delimiter, ; as the start of a comment, and most importantly a newline as a directive separator, a value containing a newline is parsed by the child process as multiple INI directives. An attacker able to influence a single INI value can therefore inject arbitrary additional directives into the child's configuration, including auto_prepend_file, extension, disable_functions, open_basedir, and others. Setting auto_prepend_file to an attacker-controlled path yields remote code execution in the child process. This issue has been patched in versions 12.5.22 and 13.1.6.","published":"2026-05-08T15:16:40.420000+00:00","modified":"2026-10-26T18:10:00.173000+00:00","status":"Analyzed","score":7.8,"severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","cvss_version":"3.1","affected":[{"criteria":"cpe:2.3:a:phpunit_project:phpunit:12.5.21:*:*:*:*:-:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"","versionStartExcluding":"","versionEndIncluding":"","versionEndExcluding":""},{"criteria":"cpe:2.3:a:phpunit_project:phpunit:13.1.5:*:*:*:*:-:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"","versionStartExcluding":"","versionEndIncluding":"","versionEndExcluding":""}],"weaknesses":["CWE-88","CWE-93"],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/sebastianbergmann/phpunit/pull/6592","source":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":["Issue Tracking","Patch"]},{"url":"https://github.com/sebastianbergmann/phpunit/security/advisories/GHSA-qrr6-mg7r-m243","source":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":["Mitigation","Patch","Vendor Advisory"]},{"url":"https://github.com/sebastianbergmann/phpunit/pull/6592","source":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","tags":["Issue Tracking","Patch"]}],"kev":null,"kev_checked":true,"metrics":{"cvssMetricV31":[{"source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","cvssData":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"LOCAL","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"LOW","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"HIGH"},"exploitabilityScore":1.8,"impactScore":5.9}],"ssvcV203":[{"source":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","ssvcData":{"timestamp":"2026-05-08T16:01:31.346640Z","id":"CVE-2026-41570","options":[{"exploitation":"poc"},{"automatable":"no"},{"technicalImpact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}]},"configurations":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:a:phpunit_project:phpunit:12.5.21:*:*:*:*:-:*:*","matchCriteriaId":"14399E6E-3DD0-4CD6-8D89-8C5A99034AE6"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:a:phpunit_project:phpunit:13.1.5:*:*:*:*:-:*:*","matchCriteriaId":"7948E33A-A79E-405B-AE5A-3CB710478DB9"}]}]}],"source":"nvd","retrieved_at":"2026-10-28T10:20:10.405388+00:00","exploited":false,"kev_stale":false,"products":["phpunit project / phpunit"],"priority":{"label":"Assess exposure and vendor guidance","reasons":["No higher-priority signal is available in the current stored evidence."]},"epss":{"probability":0.00191,"percentile":0.08704,"date":"2026-10-27","stale":false},"version_assessment":null},"news":[],"campaigns":[],"domains":[{"domain":"github.com","source_url":"https://github.com/sebastianbergmann/phpunit/pull/6592","investigate_url":"https://investigate.aeglixmind.com/#github.com"}],"arsenal_url":"https://arsenal.aeglixmind.com/?cve=CVE-2026-41570","catalog_url":"https://cves.aeglixmind.com/cve/CVE-2026-41570","research_url":"https://investigate.aeglixmind.com/research/cve/CVE-2026-41570","coverage":{"news_candidates_checked":0,"campaign_candidates_checked":0,"bounded":false,"notice":"Exact CVE mentions in stored public excerpts and reviewed campaign content only.
